Garment Care

Pilling

Contrary to popular belief, pilling is quite normal and doesn’t mean your jumper is poor quality. The tiny bobbles of fluff are caused by friction. We recommend using a pilling comb before washing which will keep your knitwear bobble free for life. Following the length of the garment, draw the comb gently but firmly over the affected area. Once they are removed, wash as instructed.

How to handwash your wool sweater

When washing your knitwear, it’s important to handwash, never machine wash as it can cause shrinkage. Wash in cool water with a delicate laundry liquid using a small amount of detergent as too much can be difficult to rinse, which may leave it coarse. Gently squish the water through the fabric, do not rub, wring or stretch as this can cause pilling or pull the fabric. Rinse thoroughly in clean cool water using the same squishing action until the water is clear. Gently squeeze out excess water, again taking care not to stretch your garment.

Drying your Knitwear

The most important guideline to follow when it comes to drying your knitwear is to never put it in a tumble dryer, as this will cause it to shrink. Dry it flat across a clothes rail or on a towel. It’s important not to hang your knitwear to dry as this will cause stretching. If your knitwear needs to be reshaped, do so when damp. Once dry, iron on the reverse side with a wool or cool setting.
